POV Production was assigned to do the videography, audio mixing on location and gear for an emmy-nominated international show on Discovery Channel. The shoot was at Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) office in Jakarta, and in the factory mill and plantation in Riau, Sumatra. The shot includes interview with the Managing Director, Senior VP, Director, Head of the Mill.
Some interesting scenes in here are:
- the control room that can monitor hot spots forest fires in real time as it is developing
- a lab that can produce 10 million trees per year.
- black liquor, a side product of pulp making that can be used to power 66% energy for the mill complex
The production took 3 days to shoot for the Indonesia scenes. The challenges to shoot a documentary program is to be mobile and move fast while trying to get as many shots as possible, and operating in a small production team and bringing essential equipment only, especially that is battery powered. We all so traveled to rural areas to shoot the tree plantation including doing helicopter shots which was provided by APP. (see photo below) The APP team organized the interviewee and location access which made the shooting schedule to run very smooth.
The small production team includes an executive producer/ writer, reporter, producer, DP/ cameramen, 2nd cameramen, audio mixer and in Jakarta we had a grip. (see photo above)
For the gear we provided 2x Canon C200 with a shoulder rig, 2 sets of 3x trifecta f/2.8 lenses including 16-35mm, 24-70mm and 70-200mm, 1x LED 15 inch light panel, 2x wireless lav mics, 1x boom mic, and an 8 track audio recorder. The production also used a drone for getting established shots.
